playing poker and teaching science

My Photo
Name:
Location: Honolulu, HI, United States

I'm a middle school science teacher, wrestling coach, poker player, scuba diver, aikido black belt, amateur writer, and student of life. In the past I have tried to give back a little by volunteering at a children's home in Belmopan, Belize, Central America. I also love Frosted Flakes. I took a year-long sabbatical from my science teaching position in order to sail the Caribbean, retired from teaching in Indiana and now teach at a Honolulu middle school.

Another summer break!

Seventy. 70. Seven-oh, LXX, 1000110 (binary).

That's how many days I have off. That's a lot, but I think it's necessary for teachers to have the time off to rest and rejuvinate in order to come back to the next school year ready to tackle the job of educating tomorrow's leaders with a renewed sense of dedication and purpose.

Anyone buying that? It sounds good to me!

This summer is shaping up to be a good one. So far, this is the plan:
1. A week in San Diego training with the Marines.
2. A week in Cabo San Lucas soaking up the sun with my main squeeze.
3. Two weeks in Hawai'i visiting my brother and sister.
4. A few days with my 8 year-old nephew doing the favorite uncle thing.

I'm sure there will be some poker and other fun.

70 days.... OoooOOOOooooooOOOOooooo Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Important announcement!

I just want to make it crystal clear that I will NOT be running for President!

Ooooo Rahhhh!

It's always great to get another "you have been selected" letter, but this one is very special indeed. This summer I will be spending an all-expense paid week in San Diego training with the United States Marine Corps!

I'll be able to meet and train with Marines at Camp Pendleton, and then spend time at the Marines Air Station Miramar, where the movie "Top Gun" was filmed. We'll train along side recruits, run obstacle courses, and train at the sniper range.

It should be another exciting chapter in the Reed biography!
