playing poker and teaching science

My Photo
Location: Indiana, United States

I'm a middle school science teacher, wrestling coach, poker player, scuba diver, aikido black belt, amateur writer, and student of life. In the past I have tried to give back a little by volunteering at a children's home in Belmopan, Belize, Central America. I also love Frosted Flakes. I have taken a year sabbatical from my teaching position in order to sail the Caribbean. Does that sound crazy to you?

Caesar’s Indiana

I had a much-needed day off for fall break last Friday and Monday and took the opportunity to drive to Caesar’s Indiana to play some cards.

If you haven’t been to Caesar’s for a while, the remodeled poker room was something to see and the tournaments and satellites running as part of the World Series Tour had the place hopping with players dreaming of a place in the spotlight.

I wasn’t so much interested in the spotlight as I was having a little fun and raking in the spoils of solid poker playing.

I walked in at 11:30 in the morning and the room was already packed with players. I immediately found a seat at the $1/$2 no-limit table, sitting down with $200 and I almost doubled my stack in the three hours I played.

As with a lot of sessions, there were very few memorable hands. I called down three mid-range bets when I played A9 suited and took down a nice pot against the bettor who held a weak ace, betting into the AA4-3-8 board.

I caught a straight on the turn two hands later, but it’s hard to bet into a board that pairs kings. A small win is better than ANY loss though.

It wasn’t a fancy play day.

Cash me out a winner.

On a side note: A woman I dated for several months and who accompanied me to my first blogger’s tournament a couple of year’s ago in Las Vegas was stabbed to death in her apartment over the weekend.

She was a wonderful person who didn’t deserve for something like that to happen to her.
