playing poker and teaching science

My Photo
Location: Indiana, United States

I'm a middle school science teacher, wrestling coach, poker player, scuba diver, aikido black belt, amateur writer, and student of life. In the past I have tried to give back a little by volunteering at a children's home in Belmopan, Belize, Central America. I also love Frosted Flakes. I have taken a year sabbatical from my teaching position in order to sail the Caribbean. Does that sound crazy to you?

An unfortunate fish taco experience.

Yes, I'm going with "an unfortunate fish taco experience" as the explanation for the gash on the front AND the back of my head and the cut over my eye. I had some fish tacos at a Mexican restaurant Wednesday after school and by midnight I was violently ill.

While attending to my intense stomach distress, my blood pressure dropped at some point and I crashed into the bathroom wall. Apparently I also bit my tongue because it hurts too! I still have no knowledge of smashing face first into the corner of the wall and floor, but I do remember lying on the floor thinking, "This is nice and cool. I think I'll stay here for a little bit." That's when I noticed that I was lying in a pool of perspiration and blood.

I don't know if the tacos were actually to blame, but it makes for a good story and isn't that what life is all about?

"See this scar? It's from an unfortunate fish taco experience."Doesn't that sound interesting to you?? :-)

It turns out I have a pretty serious concussion as a result and the room spins if I move my head too fast. The treatment seems to be to stay out of competition for about a week, so don't challenge me to anything!

Sidebar: I stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings, one of my favorite spots, for lunch yesterday and they wanted to tell me about the new menu which featured: fish tacos.

I think I'll pass.

A Great Man

A truly great man died today. My Father was the best man I have ever met. I don't say that because he was my Dad, but because it's true. In my lifetime if I become half the man he was, that's more than most men will ever become.

Bye Dad...
